Mr and Mrs LML are a lovely couple from Singapore. They got married at 40 years old and have been trying for a child since. They had 3 failed IVF cycles and their fertility specialist in Singapore did not recommend her to try again with her own eggs as her FSH level was already very high. Her AMH levels (ovarian reserve indicator) were low which confirmed that she was nearing menopause.
Mrs LML went to numerous centres for a second opinion but decided to finally settle for Metro IVF as she had read and heard many good reviews. She finally decided to have an IVF with Egg Donor cycle with Metro IVF as she was very comfortable with the doctor and staff here.
Mrs LML commenced her cycle in March 2016. Her donor produced 16 mature oocytes which was then matched with her husband’s sperm via ICSI. 2 Grade 2 and 1 Grade 3 embryos were transferred on ET day and 3 embryos were frozen for future use.
In early April 2016, Mrs LML informed us that her BHCG was 116.4IU/L. When she repeated BHCG after another 4 days, it increased to 402IU/L. We advised her to go for a scan to detect the gestational sac and heartbeat. Unfortunately fetal heartbeat was continuously not detected till 8 weeks and D+C was scheduled.
Mrs LML was advised to rest for a few months before attempting FET with her remaining embryos.
In September 2016, Mrs LML started her FET cycle. FET was done with 2 Grade 2 and 1 Grade 3 embryos.
2 weeks later, she informed that she was pregnant again. Her BHCG was 238.8IU/L and progressed to 1355.2IU/L 4 days later.
Their family life is finally complete when she delivered her baby boy in June 2017.
Madam Fama and her husband are from Libya and were married in 2010. They are expatriates currently residing in Pahang and came to us in 2013 seeking treatment for infertility following recommendations from their friends. Madam Fama attempted to try for pregnancy a few times with Clomid as she was wary of doing too many injections during IVF. Her previous experience of doing IUIs in Pakistan also made her wary as she was uncomfortable being probed and scanned as she was a bit shy in nature.
Two years later, after numerous unsuccessful tries with Clomid, we finally managed to persuade her to reconsider IVF. Her IVF cycle commenced in August 2015. 10 oocytes were harvested and ET with 3 embryos was done 3 days later.
Her luteal support appointment was uneventful when she was suddenly admitted to ward as she was displaying symptoms of OHSS. Blood was taken to confirm OHSS and to check for her BHCG level. Her BHCG was 373IU/L which indicated that she was pregnant and it was probable that her pregnancy might have aggravated her mild OHSS symptoms.
Initially, one gestational sac was detected but as her pregnancy went along, we detected two sacs with heartbeats. Her pregnancy progressed well and further scans showed that she was carrying twin girls!
She has recently delivered and the couple is happily enjoying the presence of their little girls..
Mrs Yi and her husband are from China. Her husband works for an international company and his work led them to relocate to Malaysia. They have been actively trying to get pregnant since they got married way back in 2010. Unfortunately, the long wait has never yielded any positive result. They finally decided to go for fertility testing in Metro IVF when Mrs Yi came numerous across encouraging reviews online. Semen analysis indicated that Mr Yi has azoospermia and further testing revealed that he was also not able to produce any sperm. Mr and Mrs Yi was devastated at first but her ever supportive husband was open to the idea of having a sperm donor and encouraged Mrs Yi to try.
Mrs Yi underwent IUI in April 2014 and June 2014 but pregnancy eluded them.
They finally opted for IVF in August 2014. On OPU day, 11 oocytes were harvested but only 3 were good for transfer on ET day. Sadly, these embryos failed to implant.
Though both of them felt very disappointed and very disheartened, they still wanted to try again for a child. They were advised to rest for a few months and they finally came back in April 2015 to try IVF again. This time around 17 oocytes were harvested, 3 embryos were transferred and another 3 embryo were able to be frozen for future use.
2 weeks later (May 2015), when the UPT strip showed a double line and her pregnancy was confirmed with a BHCG of 953IU, Mr and Mrs Yi was overwhelmed with emotion. They were so happy and the joy was doubled when they saw 2 gestational sacs with heartbeat (and 1 smaller empty sac) a few weeks later. Mrs Yi made preparations to go back to China as her visa was due and she wanted to be with her family who could take care of her.
Events took a drastic turn in September 2015 when Mr Yi made a call to inform us that Mrs Yi had miscarried her twins at 25+weeks due to cervical imcompetence. He indicated his wife’s desire to come back for an FET cycle with their remaining embryos. Mrs Yi was advised to rest for at least 6months to recuperate.
Nearly a year later, in August 2016 Mrs Yi came back to us to start her FET cycle. Her steely determination and bravery left us in awe. 3 embryos were transferred in September 2016 and when she emailed from China indicating that she was pregnant again, all of us were overjoyed. She is currently a stay at home mom to her precious baby girl!! Her steely determination has finally been rewarded.
Madam Wei is 37 years old and came from China. She was recommended by her friends to have IVF treatment at Metro IVF in Malaysia. This is her second marriage and she been trying for a child for the last 4 years.
From her first marriage, she had two children age 16 and 11 years. For the last 12 months she had been taken Chinese fertility medicine without any positive result. A friend of her, who had successful treatment at Metro IVF advised her to seek medical treatment.
The couple flew to Malaysia in …….. and after much investigations was found to have severe male factor. Her husband has extremely low sperm count and quality. Hence, they were advised for the IVF treatment and they proceed on the same month.
She had egg pick up on ……. And 11 eggs were retrieved. Three embryos were transferred and she had another 2 good quality embryos which were frozen for later use.
They planned to travel back China after confirmation of pregnancy result. The two weeks of waiting was a long wait. Her initial high hope and expectation began to fall. At the end of 2 weeks she was tense and anxious. Her urine pregnancy was positive and her blood bHCG was high too. She is pregnant! She was filled with joy, smile and relieved.
After that, they collected 2 months of medication which she requires because these medicine may not be available back in China. Madam Su and her husband went through several tests including Ultrasound scan, tubal test, hormone assay and sperm analysis. She was found to have blockage in her right tube and her husband’s sperm analysis showed oligoasthenoteratozoospermia which means he has male factor. The couple realized their problem and proceed with IVF treatment with delay.
In December 2016, she was counseled and started on antagonist protocol for her IVF treatment. The couple was very keen and cooperative. Following stimulation, she managed to have five developing follicles but couple remained highly positive throughout the cycle. Three successfully developed into embryo and were transferred.

Another two weeks passed and a single pregnancy sac with beating heart seen. Her 1st trimester scan at 12 weeks and detail scan at 20 weeks were all normal. On her 30 weeks of pregnancy, she experienced on leaking and was warded. However, everything turned out fine and her pregnancy progress smoothly there after.
On 7th September 2017, madam Su started having contractions and was admitted. At midnight, the cry of their baby was heard. Their precious little sweetie pie had safely delivered under the hands of Dr Elizebeth! Both couple were extremely delighted with the arrival of their little princess!
Their little princess brings lot of joys and happiness to the couple! MetroIVF team was equally happy for the couple.

Her Fallopian tubes were not blocked, egg numbers was good and semen analysis showed that the quality of sperms did not meet the standard of World Health Organization criteria. She did not want to waste time and proceeded with IVF treatment the following week.
She learns fast and did her daily medical injection smoothly. During the egg pick-up procedure, 40 eggs were obtained which was astonishing. She developed moderate ovarian hyperstimulation and it resolved spontaneously. The couple was a cheerful pair, always smiling and easy going from the beginning to the end of two weeks. 15 days after egg pick-up, her bHCG was > 200iu/l. Metroivf team were delighted for them. They were very happy but not surprise. Little did we know, during the two weeks, Mrs Paris was knitting a pair of dolls and presented it to Dr Tee swi Peng. They said: “We have arrived at the right place for treatment and we know we will have twin pregnancy.”
Mr and Mrs Paris were right. 3 weeks later ultrasound scan showed two pregnancy sacs with two fetal heart. They were as cheerful as ever and we share their happiness. In March 2017, they finally have the family they planned. Mrs Paris delivered a pair of healthy boys both weighing 2.9kg. Congratulation Mr & Mrs Paris.

Getting Pregnant Over The Age of 40
A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever have in her lifetime. Unlike a man’s gamete, the sperm which can be regenerated, the woman’s egg reserve is finite and decreases as she ages. Apart from the lower number of egg reserve, the eggs will also age which results in the quality of the egg to decline. This is why women at older age are at risk of miscarriage and genetically abnormal child births. Statistically, a woman has less than 5% chance of getting pregnant when she reaches 40, and almost zero as she approaches menopause (no more eggs).
Is It Possible To Conceive Over 40 Using Own Eggs?
There are 3 known cases worldwide, where women are able to conceive using their own eggs at the maximum age of 46 in Fertility Care Orlando USA, Create Fertility London UK, and Metro IVF Malaysia. With the help of IVF, pregnancy can be achieved.
It was in 2012 when Pn. Lina, a local Malaysian, came to Metro IVF for her first fertility visit. She planned to get pregnant when she was 45. Physical and medical examination showed she had poor ovarian reserve and it would take a miracle for the IVF laboratory to achieve pregnancy for her. During the consultation, she was also informed by the consultant and the fertility counsellor that her chance of getting pregnant is less than 1%. Furthermore there is increased risk of miscarriage of over 20%, risk of abnormal baby and also the risk of hypertention, diabetes, and other medical illneses. She decided to seek other fertility opinions. In 2013, Pn Lina came back and requested to proceed with IVF treatment. She was further counselled on the low chance of achieving pregnancy and other risks. The fertility team worked hard and together with the embryologist and andrologist had a long discussion before proceeding with the case. It was decided that the best stimulation protocol for her would be short IVF protocol (Flare-up) She had 2 follicles and 1 egg. ICSI was done for the single egg to ensure fertilisation. The inseminated egg was then cultured in a mint incubator with mixed gasses and media to ensure optimal progress. The following day, fertilisation was confirmed by the embryologist that there was 2 pro-nucleus and 2 polar bodies. The team knew they have made the right decision.
On the second day, the embryo had divided into 4 cells. The fertility team collectively decided to transfer the 4 cell embryo instead of culturing it further (Although the standard procedure requires cultivation to 3 days or 5 days). In-vitro is better than in-vivo. The embryo transfer was then performed by the most senior and experienced clinician and senior embryologist. The embryo transfer went through smoothly and was placed 1cm from the fundus. The team was relieved as the embryo was placed at the best position. After the transfer, it was decided that Lina should have adequate luteal support to ensure implantation. She was given both progesterone injection and vaginal progesterone. During the three weeks that follow, she was regularly supported by the team of fertility counsellors. 3 weeks later, Pn. Lina was confirmed pregnant and a healthy baby was delivered at term via lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) .
At last, the team of clinicians, embryologists, counsellors at Metro IVF were delighted that all their hard work and time spent was not in vain. It would have taken a few hundred cycles on average to achieve 1 such pregnancy. To date, this is the oldest successful IVF woman to conceive and deliver a healthy baby using her own egg in Malaysia.
F.E.H., 35 years was married for 9 years and had been trying to conceive for the past 8 years. Her husband, is a Dutch IT consultant. They visited Metro IVF on 16-02-2010 seeking assistance to get pregnant. Our initial investigations showed that her uterus was normal sized and her hormone were normal. Her antral follicle count was good, at 15. However her husband Semen analysis showed severe sperm count.
The couple was explained on severe male factor as the cause for their infertility. She was advised IVF instead of IUI. She commenced ivf treatment using long protocol. 14 eggs were retrieved in May 2010 and 3 embryo was transferred 2 days later. The cycle was unsuccessful. 3 months later, patient on her request was referred to Netherlands for her subsequent treatment. She had her 2nd ivf cycle in Netherlands under Dr Cam in Oct 2010 and had similar result.
The following year, She came back to Metro IVF and started her 3rd IVF cycle in March 2011. 18 eggs were retrieved on 21st march 2011 and embryo transfer was done 3 days later. 12 days later her blood bHCG was 127iu/l. At last F.E.H. is pregnant!!!. At 7 weeks of gestation a single intrauterine sac was seen with fetal present. Detailed scan of the baby was done on 16th August 2011 and a healthy baby girl was noted.
On 15th October 2011, F.E.H. delivered a baby girl weighing 2.7kg.
3 years later, the couple planned for a 2nd child. They returned to Metro IVF and F.E.H. was started on long protocol in November 2014. 10 eggs were retrieved on 9th December 2014 and 3 days later 3 embryo were transferred. She had excess embryos for freezing.

Her pregnancy progressed normally and she delivered on 26th August 2015, a healthy baby girl also weighed 2.7kg.
